A special gift idea for your child

Why not open an e-mail account for your child?

When your daughter or son is born, start to write them e-mails containing your thoughts, dreams, desires for them as well as writing about any special memories. Those special moments fly by so quickly and it will be a valuable gift to give them when they are older; perhaps you can give them the password for their account to read their emails on their 18th birthday.

This can be an especially great way for a father to express themselves to their child. All it takes is 3 or 4 minutes to write a short email from your phone. This is also an enormous gift for yourself as you will value your child through your writing. One day when they are given access to those saved letters, you can also re-live the beautiful moments that might have been forgotten.

The power of encouragement

The following text is from ourdailybread.org, August 7, 2016:

“When Kathleen’s teacher called her to the front of the grammar class to analyze a sentence, she panicked. As a recent transfer student, she hadn’t learned that aspect of grammar. The class laughed at her.

Instantly the teacher sprang to her defense. “She can out-write any of you any day of the week!” he explained. Many years later, Kathleen gratefully recalled the moment: “I started that day to try to write as well as he said I could.” Eventually, Kathleen Parker would win a Pulitzer Prize for her writing. “….

Remember that Jesus is doing the same all day long for you and me!

At just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Romans 5:6

Babysitting exchange in your church – A new concept

Grandparents’ own grandchildren are commonly far from their homes, yet these older church members often have time and experience that can be offered to families who need childcare. On the other hand, the church often has more and more single mothers or young families where both parents are required to work full time and rely on childcare.

Maybe it is possible for your church to initiate a babysitter exchange idea. Introduce an announcement to your church that a new information board is available where parents and available ‘grandparents/childcare/babysitters’ can share their information and contact details. Through this new idea, both sides can have a win-win situation and the exchange between old and young in church can grow. May God bless you and your church!

What can our daughter / son learn from us?

The other day I saw a mother in church playing the piano, her son sitting next to her focusing on every key that she struck. I could see pride in his eyes. “What a great mom I have.”

As a parent, it is a real blessing to be seen as a model. Every person looks for a role model, desiring recognition, proximity and joy.

Go on a special adventure with your kids

Go into your garden, or choose a special place with your son/daughter and bury a box. Inside the box, place letters in it with your personal views on how you think the world will be in 20 years’ time and the goals that you have for your life. When you dig up the box in 20 years’ time, it will be amazing to read what you wrote all those years ago.

Treasure those special moments…
